Denton Chamber of Commerce Names Hank Dickenson New Director of Membership
The Denton Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that long-time Denton community advocate Hank Dickenson has accepted the position of Director of Membership.
“Hank’s relationships, credibility, deep community roots, and history of service to a number of area organizations make him the ideal candidate for this role as the Chamber seeks to increase in connections and resources for our business community,” said Erica Pangburn, President, Denton Chamber of Commerce. “I could not be prouder to welcome Hank to the Chamber’s roster of professionals.”
Dickenson has been involved with the Denton Chamber for more than 10 years. Previously, he served as a Board Member and was elected Board Chair in 2010. He also served as the Chair of Discover Denton and assisted with the hiring of Mike Pistana, current Vice President of Discover Denton. Dickenson is a past recipient of the Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the prestigious Otis L. Fowler Award.
Prior to accepting his position at the Denton Chamber, Dickenson spent over 25 years at the University of North Texas Athletic Department as an athletic administrator, holding titles such as Deputy Athletic Director from 2006-2015 and Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director/Community Engagement from 2016-2020.
During his tenure, he established Mean Green Sports Properties, which controlled all marketing assets for the athletic department before being purchased by Learfield IMG College. He also coordinated the naming rights contracts for Apogee Stadium, The Hub Club at Apogee and the Fit N Wise Sports Fitness Center, as well as oversaw all corporate fundraising for the department for nearly 20 years. Most recently, he oversaw the North Texas Letterwinner’s Association, coordinated the annual spring fundraising golf tournament, chaired the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, ran the department’s courtesy car program, and organized the annual Hall of Fame dinner, in addition to sport oversight of the Track and Field program and Women’s Softball program. Dickenson has retired from full-time status, but continues to do community engagement and broadcast work on a part-time basis for North Texas football and men’s basketball for Learfield IMG College on the Mean Green Sports Network.
In his free time, Dickenson serves as President of the 2021 Serve Denton Board of Directors and is a member of the Salvation Army of Denton County Advisory Board, North Texas Fair and Rodeo Association Board of Directors, and the Denton Downtown Economic Development Committee. He also teaches a sports broadcast course at the University of North Texas as an adjunct professor.
“The Denton Chamber of Commerce is an organization that has afforded me so much. This is a great time for me to be able to give back,” Dickenson said. “Any career success that I have had in sponsorship sales, business development or community engagement is owed directly to the many people and processes that I have come in contact with through working with the Chamber. My involvement with the Mean Green will continue in many of the capacities that people are used to, but my main focus now is building the Chamber membership and helping us not only sustain but improve the local business community. It’s a great opportunity and I am indebted to the leadership for having trust in my abilities.”
