As the Denton Chamber of Commerce seeks to empower and equip underrepresented members of our local business community, we are establishing a standing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee whose members will be charged with holding us accountable to this commitment. This committee will work to:
Enhance the reputation of the chamber as it relates to valuing diversity and inclusion
Improve recruitment & retention of minority business owners
Provide workshops and resources specific to minority business owners
WHAT IS DEI?
Diversity is the presence of differences that may include race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, religious commitment, or political perspective. Populations that have been - and remain - underrepresented among practitioners in the field and marginalized in the broader society.
Equity is promoting justice, impartiality and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of resources by institutions or systems. Tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the root causes of outcome disparities within our society.
Inclusion refers to the degree to which diverse individuals are able to participate fully in the decision-making processes within an organization or group. While a truly “inclusive” group is necessarily diverse, a “diverse” group may or may not be “inclusive.”
