Q. What is the Denton Chamber of Commerce and what does it do?

A. Established in 1909, the Denton Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)6 business organization made up of hundreds of members representing businesses and organizations of all sizes. The mission of the Denton Chamber is to provide a significant unified voice in shaping the future growth of the business communities we serve and to provide a vehicle through which individuals can work to improve the area’s business climate and quality of life. A diverse business and service base is of great importance to Denton’s economic future. The Chamber will work to create a healthy and competitive environment where businesses can grow and prosper.

 

Q. Does the Chamber have a monthly meeting?

A. The Chamber has a number of monthly events we encourage members to attend in order to mingle with fellow professionals and build solid business contacts. There are currently 5 official membership meetings in a year; four quarterly luncheons and an annual banquet. Visit our online calendar to view the Chamber’s many events and programs.

 

Q. What area does the Denton Chamber of Commerce cover?

A. We are a local Chamber that covers the City of Denton and the surrounding communities. Members can be located anywhere in the world, but would benefit most from being in or around Denton.

 

Q. Do you have Chamber members that are not based in Denton?

A. Yes, no matter where your business is located, if you currently conduct business in and around Denton, or are looking to grow your business in the area, then you should become a member of the Denton Chamber. Our networking events, programs, and services will help you increase your customer base, while our communications will keep you abreast of developments in the region that may affect your business.

 

Q. Why would I join the Denton Chamber of Commerce?

A. The Chamber provides opportunities on a daily basis for you to grow your business or organization. We have events and programs every month and are always on the lookout for new and exciting programs to add to our calendar. There are opportunities to fit every member’s needs, schedule, and interests.

 

Q. Who are members of the Denton Chamber of Commerce?

A. Our members represent all types of businesses and industries both small and large. Whether you just started your business or have been in business for decades, our staff is here to support you and provide you with the resources relevant to your business or organization.

 

Q. What is the structure of the Denton Chamber of Commerce?

A. The policies and programs of the Chamber are determined by a volunteer Board of Directors. They in turn employ a paid President/CEO, who’s responsibility is to organize and execute the Chamber’s programs and carry out its policies. The President has paid support staff to assist.

 

Q. Is the Denton Chamber of Commerce funded by city, state, or federal government?

A. The Chamber is a private and independent organization. All of our funding is through membership fees, event sponsorship, ticket sales, programs, and non-dues revenue.  The Chamber does receive monies from the City of Denton to administer our affiliate organizations: Denton Economic Development Partnership and Discover Denton.

 

Q. Can I attend functions and events as a non-member?

A. Non-members are generally allowed by "invitation only.” Invitations may be arranged by contacting an active Chamber member or the Denton Chamber staff. We also have some events that are free and open to the public. If an event is open to the public, it will be indicated on our event listing.

 

Q. How can i be involved?

A. “Involvement” means something different for everyone. Opportunities to get involved range from simply attending and networking at events, to joining a committee, task force, or volunteer group, to being a supportive sponsor and investor.

 

Q. How do I know if a business belongs to the Denton Chamber of Commerce?

A. You can look up all of our members in the online Membership Directory. The directory is updated daily.

 

Q. can i pay for more than one year of membership at a time?

A. We do not currently offer a multi-year membership plan. Membership automatically renews every 12 months from the month you join.

 

Q. Should I join if I don’t have the time to attend any events?

A. Attendance is not necessary to enjoy the benefits of membership. If you find yourself missing events, your business or organization may be represented by any of your co-workers or employees attending on your behalf.

 

Q. I’ve attended networking events before and people have been very "cliquey." Is this how your events are?

A. No cliques here! Not only will our staff and Board of Directors strive to provide a welcoming atmosphere – our members do too! And with the addition of our Ambassador program there will always be a friendly face at our events to introduce you to other members. We truly pride ourselves on the atmosphere of our events and many of our members (and potential members) have also commented about how welcomed they feel.

 

Q. My business is doing well and I really don’t need the exposure. Why should I join?

A. Membership and investment in your local chamber of commerce may not have a direct benefit for you and your business, but it will have a net positive benefit for other members and the business community-at-large. Your membership would support the mission of the chamber to advocate, educate, and collaborate for economic growth in Denton.

 

Q. Can I use the Denton Chamber of Commerce logo on my website and marketing material?

A. The chamber’s logo is copyrighted and is subject to the protection of those laws. Members may use the “chamber member logo” available for download in the Member Information Center.
